Field Learning

Field Learning is an hands‑on, educational experience where students build real‑world skills by engaging directly with local partners. Through guided activities around the community, students apply classroom learning in meaningful, practical ways.

This is the best way the 3 C's are applied at WIN Academy. When in the 'field', students connect by building strong relationships with staff, peers, and community members. By connecting to real life situations, curious students are able to ask questions and then create meaningful work through projects they complete. Field Learning helps students develop independence, teamwork, problem‑solving, and confidence while discovering the many ways they can contribute to their community.

Salmon in the Classroom

This is WIN Academy's second year participating in Salmon in the Classroom.  Students raise salmon from eggs to fry and release them into the Spokane River to help repopulate the Salmon in our area.

Salmon eggs are given to us by the CDA tribe in January. WIN culminates their learning in May with workshops provided by Braided Education, Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Spokane Riverkeepers.  While raising the eggs, students learn the importance of tank maintenance, predators, life cycle, and importance of Salmon to native culture.

Bird Box Expedition

WIN Academy students had a Bird Box Expedition to the Cheney High School. During this wood shop class with Jake Bolin, they worked on measurements to ensure their bird houses were correctly made. Once again, students highlighted how mathematics is a fundamental tool everyday.

Students truly had an incredible experience partnering with the high school and they are very thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with the woodworking teacher.

A Delicious Math Experience

WIN Academy students participated in a hands-on field experience to apply mathematical ratios to real-life cooking. The activity involved making pie dough, where students utilized precise ingredient ratios to ensure the perfect texture and flavor.

This immersive experience highlighted how mathematics is a fundamental tool in the culinary arts, transforming abstract concepts into a delicious, practical skill.
